Successful psychopathy of agent 47 in hitman: World of assassination (2023)
Video games have been an integral part of interactive media, as seen from its rise in popularity. Several video games that have attempted to break the standards on character portrayal show characters who are not purely good or bad. They are often linked to committing morally grey action and psychopathy. Agent 47 is one such character and is interesting to analyze. This study analyzes Agent 47’s psychopathic traits and how he qualifies as a successful psychopath. It will apply a conceptual framework called The Development and Validation of the Successful Psychopathy Scale by Louise Wallace (2023). The findings show how Agent 47 possesses psychopathic traits: having no empathy, having a high level of social potency, exhibiting a high level of manipulative skills, exhibiting a high level of boldness and fearless dominance, and exhibiting a high level of risk taking. They also indicate that Agent 47 is indeed a successful psychopath. The analysis proves that video game characters are much more complex than they seem. To conclude, the findings challenge the moral definition of psychopathy as something that might not be inherently bad, as long as the said individual is able to use his traits to achieve positive outcomes.
