My creative thesis will focus on the effect of marginalization towards disabled people through the fantasy genre. Marginalization is when a group, community, or people are treated as less significant simply because of their social standing, financial background, or heritage. It is natural to exclude individuals or groups who do not seem to fit within the social group, as their interests or values don't align. However, when taken to extremes, people can hurt others by refusing to include those who they don’t see fit. Traditional humanism defines humans as rational, independent, and complete individuals, which most often than not excludes disabled people. Post-humanism challenges the idea that being human is not about physical completeness but instead it is about the interconnectedness and emotion to technology, animals, and nature. Keily Tiara is a magical creature rebelling against humans who see magical creatures as lesser beings. Her goal is to bring equality to the magical creatures' community. Although the focus will be on the effects of social marginalization, this creative work also delves deeper into the reasons for and the consequences of social marginalization for the protagonist, Keily Tiara.
