The tension between Chinese traditions and Christianity has still been going on for years. Many Christians perceive Chinese traditions as part of a religious ritual of Confucianism (Konghucu), Buddhism, or ancestor worship, which leads to the concern of customs conflict with Christian teachings, particularly the prohibition against idolatry. This research examines the underlying causes of these tensions by analyzing the concepts of filial piety in Confucianism, the teachings of Confucius and idolatry in Christianity. The research explores areas of conflict and ways of addressing them. The findings suggest that differing interpretations of ritual practices and expression of respect towards the deceased are the main contributing factors of the root of this conflict. These findings will be presented into a creative work in the form of a play-with-music so it will be easier to be accepted by the audience.
