While visiting a batik shop in Surabaya, Gillian, an ambitious university
student, notices a unique piece labeled “BERKAH MOJO MOJOTRISNO”
Intrigued, she travels to the village to learn more about its craftsmanship.
She first visits a bronze workshop, then spends her time walking around
and observing village life. Eventually, she comes across the batik
workshop and discovers a rare natural blue dyeing method.
Fascinated by the technique, Gillian begins researching it closely while
also participating in the daily batik-making process.
As she works
alongside the instructors, she gradually forms strong bonds with them and
gains deeper insight into the cultural meaning behind the craft. She
realizes that these practices are not just technical skills, but an essential
part of the villagers’ heritage and identity. Her appreciation for the
community grows as she shares in their routines, meals, and festivals.
One day, she receives an urgent message from her lecturer, reminding her
to submit her research soon. Pressured by the chance for academic
recognition, Gillian is torn between sharing the discovery for her own gain
or protecting the villagers’ trust and traditions. In the end, she chooses
to respect the community and help them promote their unique
craftmsmanship.
