The influence of experiential learning and entrepreneurial attitude on social entrepreneurial intention through social entrepreneurial self-efficacy

Growing concern for social issues and the shift in young people's perspectives about social impact have made social entrepreneurship important for research. However, most previous studies have focused on general entrepreneurial intention, while studies examining social entrepreneurial intention especially among Indonesian undergraduate students are still limited. Inconsistencies in previous findings regarding the mediating role of self-efficacy also highlight a clear research gap. This study aims to examine the influence of experiential learning and entrepreneurial attitude on social entrepreneurial intention, with social entrepreneurial self-efficacy as a mediating variable, among Economics and Business undergraduate students in Surabaya. The data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 157 respondents. The quantitative method used in this research involved analyzing the obtained data using PLS-SEM. The results showed that entrepreneurial attitude and experiential learning have a direct effect on social entrepreneurial intention. Furthermore, experiential learning is proven to enhance social entrepreneurial self-efficacy. However, social entrepreneurial self-efficacy is not proven to mediate the influence of experiential learning on social entrepreneurial intention, as social entrepreneurial self-efficacy itself does not have a direct effect on social entrepreneurial intention. These findings demonstrate that entrepreneurial attitude and experiential learning are the main factors shaping social entrepreneurial intention. The practical implications suggest that higher education institutions need to strengthen the design of entrepreneurship learning through social field-based projects, the involvement of inspirational figures, and the provision of institutional support to encourage students' social entrepreneurial intention.
