A Study of traditional and non-traditional women as seen through Mrs. Ramsay's and Lily Briscoe's roles and ways of thinking in Virginia Woolf's to the Lighthouse

Virginia Woolf novel's To the Lighthouse talks about the
two polars of females' world. Virginia reveals her two
main female characters, Mrs. Ramsay and Lily Briscoe, as
the two women types of women with different character
traits. Mrs. Ramsay is a figure of a woman who likes to
stay at home, and to take care of her husband and her
children. The first priority of her life is her family.
Therefore, she chooses to be a housewife and a mother.
According to tforell and Reiner, in their theory of
traditional sex typing of personality traits, a woman who
has characteristics of home oriented, dependent, and
nurturing likes Mrs. Ramsay is considered as a
traditional woman. On the other hand, Lily Briscoe has
opposing character traits as Mrs. Ramsay has. She is a
kind of woman who likes to live independently and freely.
Therefore, the thesis writer wants to find out whether
