This thesis aims at exploring girl power in Ascendance of a Bookworm. Girl power’s issue brought by 1990s generation has continuously boomed out, and by now a phenomenon, studies on girl power and the relation with culture study and literature have been done. Girl power, which was infiltrated by popular media such as pop music, chick lit, and teen lit novels, presented the image of women in modern consciousness that females are connected with fun, confidence, and, often, beauty. Women have always been strong: enduring childbirth, taking care of their children while doing household chores at the same time, withstanding various burdens and hardships. This thesis explores the way the main character shows her girl power and the effect it has on other people. This research was conducted to find out how girl power is described in the fantasy genre anime Ascendance of a Bookworm. Research data in the form of dialogue and narration in the anime Ascendance of a Bookworm. The analytical model used is descriptive method of interpretive analysis to find out how girl power is described in the anime.
