What will be discussed are the reasons behind the struggle of accepting death, the signs of the struggles, and the ways to find acceptance toward death. The elaborations of these are provided inside a psychological fantasy novel which is still niche genre for Indonesian writers. Those themes will be explored through using the illustration of complicated grief’s cognitive attachment model (Maccallum & Bryant, 2013), trauma (McEwen et al., 2015; van der Kolk, 1996), and two-model approach (Wong, 2008). The story focuses on Carol, an unassuming girl living in a fantasy world called Lyravynn, who discovers that she is a songstress who has the ability save the world. However, she loses her grandma and quickly learns that an impending doom awaits her grandfather, herself, and this world. This leads her to develop signs of identity crisis stemming from various traumatic events involving death. In turn, this forces her to question a lot about herself. In the end, she decides that instead of avoiding death, she faces it head on and thus she achieves death acceptance and resolves identity crisis.
