Hear me out! : a screenplay exploring the effects of patriarchal parenting on a daughter
This creative work explores the psychological impacts of a patriarchal family environment on a daughter's self-development. Using a creative approach, this thesis offers a feature-length drama screenplay in the coming-of-age sub-genre. To analyze domestic power dynamics and restricted parenting styles, this study applies Julia Suryakusuma's State Ibuism theory and Diana Baumrind's authoritarian parenting theory. Through Asmaranti's character journey, this screenplay depicts how a daughter's desire for freedom can effectively overcome deeply rooted patriarchal constraints and authoritarian relationships within the family. Her journey through the 'adversity-awakening-resistance-triumph' paradigm demonstrates how intellectual resilience and intentional resistance can reshape traditional gender roles without breaking apart family relationships. Overall, this creative work delivers a complex narrative about how contemporary Indonesian kids could fight for freedom, reconcile, and create more equal household relationships.
