The Structural ambiguity in news headlines in the Jakarta Post - Digital Collection of Petra Christian University

The thesis is the study of the structural ambiguity in news headlines in The
Jakarta Post. The importance of headlines and the effect of ambiguous news headlines on
readers make the writer interested in this study. The writer wants to analyse the
structurally ambiguous news headlines in term of the structures and meanings. The writer
also tries to figure out how to clarify the structurally ambiguous headlines. The analysis
is done using the theory of Transformational Grammar. The analysis and findings show
that there is structural ambiguity in news headlines in The Jakarta Post. The structural
ambiguity in news headlines in The Jakarta Post occurs in noun phrases and sentence
with adverbial of place.
